The Central State University Foundation raises scholarship funds through its Year-end Fundraising Campaign to reduce CSU student loan debt. We are requesting that you make a gift of $50, $100 or more to support the campaign.
Saturday, May 18, 2019, a donor made a $40 million dollar gift to retire the student loan debt of every graduating senior in the class of 2019 at Morehouse College. It was a tremendous gift. One that will have long-term positive impacts on the lives those students. Equally important, it was recognition of the growing crisis of student loan debt threatening students and families, particularly minority students.
As more students pursue higher education, student loan debt has become the fastest growing segment of household debt in the country. And the amount of debt keeps growing as loans are being issued at an ever-increasing rate to keep pace with the rising cost of tuition and student fees. Student loan debts of $50,000, $75,000 and $100,000 have become the largest impediment to a student earning a CSU degree.
The Alma Mater works hard to maintain the lowest tuition rate of any four-year institution in Ohio. Yet ninety-three percent of our students require additional funding to “bridge the gap” between financial aid and school expenses. Without private dollar support students are forced to take out burdensome student loans.
The Central State University Foundation addresses the student loan crisis by raising private dollars through the Dream Keepers Scholarship (November-December) and Year-end (May-June) Fundraising Campaigns. Funds raised are awarded to students to supplement their financial aid package reducing the need for student loans.
